Plymouth University are rapidly gaining a reputation, both in the UK and internationally, as a leader in the field of sustainability education. In 2015, they received a Responsible Futures award following participation in NUS’ Responsible Futures pilot programme which evaluates institution-wide approaches to sustainability. In particular, the award recognised the impressive work of the university’s Centre for Sustainable Futures, established in 2005 to encourage the uptake of sustainability from both staff and students.
Ann Finlayson, Executive Chair of SEEd, said: “We are delighted that Plymouth University is joining SEEd as a member. Their work in making Plymouth one of the most sustainable universities in the world is outstanding and they are always seeking more ways to develop their ‘whole institution approach’. We hope they will work with us as a sector bringing their learning but also gaining a wider audience for their research, thinking and practice. Looking forward to our collaborations!”
Over the course of the next year, SEEd will work with Plymouth to explore how institutions can link to the Sustainable Development Goals. We hope this will also lead to further inputs on our work with UNESCO as part of the Education for Sustainable Development Global Action Programme.
