The school run accounts for 16 per cent of early morning traffic. By finding more sustainable alternatives to cars for this journey, schools are conserving energy, reducing air pollution, contributing to local well-being and addressing the ‘Being Healthy’ and ‘Staying Safe’ outcomes for children under Every Child Matters (ECM).*
By 2020 the government recommends that all schools are models of sustainable travel, where vehicles are used only when absolutely necessary and where there are exemplary facilities for healthier, less polluting or less dangerous modes of transport.

The Sustainable Schools Alliance, is a project of SEEd and helps schools embed sustainability and learning for sustainability. It’s a network of Schools across the UK who are working towards a Whole School Approach.
